Volume ten of Kazuyuki Kawaguchi's ongoing "Prospects" series was photographed between January and December 2024 in small towns, villages, and rural areas primarily in Hokkaido, but also includes photographs from Japan's Kanto, Kansai, Shikoku, and Chugoku regions.
In the "Prospects" series, Kawaguchi documents the decline and ongoing transformation of aging cityscapes and architecture in formerly prosperous regions. Informed by each place's specific history, yet focused on its possible future, Kawaguchi captures a graceful, distinctly Japanese sense of patina and beauty.
