Enchaînement
In her photobook “Enchaînement”, Mirika Ishida regards the changing days of her life like frames of a film. Presented in the 16:9 format and laid out like an endless chain of images, Ishida’s days pass by without context or comment. The photographs, taken somewhere in Japan or in Europe or someplace else, show flowers, friends or strangers out at the beach, silhouettes of antennas on a roof, a nightly street scene with a red umbrella, writing in a shop window, a bandaged foot on a hospital bed or a swarm of fish in black-and-white. Slowly, stories emerge and disappear, elements overlap and repeat, and things keep on changing and progressing. In "Enchaînement", Ishida looks, records and looks again as life continues its march onwards, hour by hour, day by day, week by week, moment by moment.
