Kana Kuwasako was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, where she currently resides. She graduated with a degree in Fine Arts (Printmaking) from Hokkaido University of Education’s Iwamizawa Campus in 2013. In 2019, she won the Portfolio Review Grand Prize at the Hokkaido Photo Festa; the same year, the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts added her works to its collection.

Her exhibitions include “after the rain” (2020, Gallery Sou, Sapporo), “2019 Young Portfolio Exhibition” (2020, Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts, Hokuto), “mima-no-me vol. 6” (2020, Migishi Kotaro Museum of Art, Sapporo), “Becoming the Night” together with Yuki Ida (2021, Photo Gallery Flow Nagoya, Nagoya), “Unnatural Nature” (2021, Terrace Keikaku, Sapporo), and many more.

Kana Kuwasako uses the camera to record experiences and phenomena with an elusive but certain presence, like wind, light or sound. Her works are divided into two series: “arteria”, for which Kuwasako embroiders her prints with traces of light and wind buried within the photographs, complementing the errors in the image; and “Unnatural Nature”, in which she recreates her own sensuous experiences in an approach that diverges from traditional still images and reflects on the photographed locations (usually forests and mountains) and on the concept of nature.
