Yasumasa Morimura’s _Self-Portrait ‘Money Game’ _is the publication to the Morimura’s exploration into the relationship between artists and revolutionaries and their economic relevance and consistent appearance on monetary bank notes. Here Morimura playfully discusses issues of economics in relation to histories and identities, the dynamic and later appropriation of counter revolutionaries and artists onto monetary bank notes through assuming these individuals himself. His elaborate self portraitures of political leaders such as Mao, Che, Ghandi to artists and celebrities Frida Kahlo and Marilyn Monroe, infiltrate and question our own historic and western collective consciousness, playfully brining forth a dialogue which opens up modern contradictions through the artist’s self appropriations.
