Coterie Photo Magazine KYUSHU II

Publisher: Coterie Photo Magazine KYUSHU

It's not exactly clear when, but we probably came up with the theme for this issue over a drink. As we wrote in the first issue, we have clearly defined the overall goal of our photo magazine, “Putting out information about Kyushu through our photography, as we were all born in Kyushu, grew up in Kyushu, and are now living in Kyushu, Japan”. Based on that fact, we don’t need to set a respective theme for each issue. However, we are all still thinking about how we should face life in Kyushu, and how we are going to develop through this “Coterie Photo Magazine Kyushu”.

The title of this issue is, “The Three-Prefectural Boundaries in Kyushu”, which indicates the three different boundary lines comprised of several prefectures inside Kyushu Island, the Fukuoka-Kumamoto-Oita boundary, Oita-Kumamoto-Kagoshima boundary, and Kumamoto-Miyazaki-Kagoshima boundary.

This time, Matsuoka went around Oita, Kumamoto and Miyazaki prefectures, Uchida around Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Oita prefectures, and Ozaki went around Kumamoto, Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures. Under clear autumnal skies, after an equinoctial week, we all set off to three different destinations, which were three-prefectural boundaries.

Without the theme of this issue, we would never have had the opportunity to visit these places. While taking photos there, we caught a glimpse of the daily lives of the locals, got to know how they rely on the earth, and realized how deeply their behaviour is rooted in nature.
