Koji Onaka’s photobook “Horse & Cactus”, based on his visit to Mexico in August of September 2007, evades the genres of travel book or diary. Koji offers an enticing, strangely sentimental work. Rather than capturing things as they are, Koji reappropriates reality as a sort of material for his photographs, transforming sceneries and sights into signifiers and triggers of a peculiar and fresh mixture of emotions, thoughts, ideas and received impressions.
