Michi

Published in 2014, by Kawade Shobo Shinsa, Nobuyoshi Araki’s Michi contains a series of photographs which document a street viewed from his home’s balcony. Designed by Match & Company founder Satoshi Machiguchi, the images span a period of three years, beginning on the 3rd of March 2011 marking the day of the Great Tohoku Earthquake. Here Araki depicts the day to day encounters of the street, illustrating the surroundings and people who venture into his frame. Michi paints a narrative and metaphor to life and of the many roads people live within.
