Moments in time

The photography of Chang Chao-Tang has been renowned for its sharp and forceful style, and his achievement is a milestone in the modern photography of Taiwan. Through photographing many real yet strange landscapes and objects, his works profoundly explore the absurdity and repression of human existence, and also offer the viewers moments of contemplation and reflection. This exhibition not only assembles the works most representative of his accomplishment, but unveils his photographs made in the high school years for the first time. The early photographs capture the daily life of small towns in a simple manner, yet reveals Chang’s remarkable ability to extract a distinct beauty from the pedestrian reality. Half a century of works from each phase of his career interweave a rich and complete texture of images which provide us a precious opportunity to relish an artist’s lifetime oeuvre.
