The Pescadores are an island chain off the Western coast of Taiwan and provide the background to Chan Wai Kwong’s photobook “Oh! Pescadores,” published in 2018 by Mark Pearson.
The book is one of Chan Wai Kwong’s most pensive works to date, concentrating mostly on the nature on the islands (in landscapes, panoramic shots of the ocean or the local flora). It is rare to see leave behind his focus on his own subjective experience of the world, but the different approach works beautifully in “Oh! Pescadores” – especially if directly contrasted with Kwong’s other oeuvre.
