Born into a buddhist temple family, as a youth Akiyoshi Taniguchi refused to continue the family business and instead moved to New York seeking to connect with the local jazz and photography scene.
“Photo-Boy 1988-2011 Life, Photography, and Home” concerns itself with the photographs Taniguchi has taken since his return to Japan in 1988 until shortly before the Tōhoku earthquake occurred in March 2011.
Taniguchi’s embracing a new period in his life; he marries, becomes a father, and continues the family (Taniguchi is a monk at Chohouin Temple in Tokyo. The photographs work as a visual diary, with handwritten notes and anecdotes providing further context.)
