“You probably won’t remember today,” Christopher Anderson writes in his afterword for “Pia”. “You’re just jumping on the bed behind me right now.” It is the same sentimentality and awareness of a moment’s fleetingness that makes the images in this book so remarkable. Selected from photographs taken between 2014 and 2020 – a time when the family moved from New York to Paris – “Pia” not only showcases Anderson’s exceptional talent with color, composition and timing but also his eye for sensuality. While “Pia” may broadly belong to the genre of family photographs, it would be more apt to call it a rose-tinted love letter to childhood, and to his daughter.
