shashasha recognizes the importance of customer’s privacy, and endeavors to protect any private information used and shared relating to privacy, and promises appropriate utilization. shashasha only uses information about customers in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (2018) and other relevant legislations and regulations. By visiting shashasha.jp, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Notice.

Relevant Private Information

Personal information gathered by shashasha includes: name, address, telephone/mobile number, e-mail address, password, information regarding deliveries, information exchanged between customers and shashasha.jp, information that could identify an individual regarding/combining above-mentioned information, and additional information provided by customers.

Utilization of Private Information

shashasha uses private information exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Confirmation/reference regarding orders
  • Confirmation/reference regarding order dispatches
  • Replying to inquiries from customers
  • Sending promotional material, newsletters, information regarding services from shashasha or affiliated companies

We will never release or share any private information with any third party, with the exception of the following situations:

  • To cooperate by law
  • To protect any individual’s life or resources and encountering difficulties gaining the agreement of the person

Newsletters

Our newsletter, informing registered users about books, artworks and other products in our catalogue, is sent using MailChimp.
MailChimp works in accordance with the new GDPR standards. Users who do not wish to receive our e-mail newsletters any longer may click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any e-mail newsletter or sent an e-mail requesting to unsubscribe to [email protected].

Data collection

We employ Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel to collect statistics about users’ presence on our website. The information that we collect is anonymous and is not used to track or identify individual users and/or their private information.

Payment Period
A payment request will be issued once your order has been accepted. We ask for this request to be fulfilled within 8 hours after receiving the payment request.
Any orders with payment requests exceeding 8 hours will be automatically cancelled; an e-mail notifying the customer of the cancellation is automatically issued by our system.
Product Delivery Period

Returns Policy
Generally, we do not accept any returns, refunds or cancellations. However, if you have been sent a wrong or faulty product, please contact us in order to resolve the issue.（Regarding returns & exchanges）

Regarding delivery charges

Within Japan

All orders exceeding 20,000 JPY will be shipped free of charge.
For orders below 20,000 JPY, delivery charges are applied based on your location in Japan.
The delivery carrier used for domestic orders is Yamato.

International shipping

We would like to inform customers of an update regarding photobook deliveries. According to our logistics partner DHL, orders can still be delivered in most parts of the world, albeit with delays of a few days. Depending on the destination country, postage fees may vary. Our system automatically calculates the shipping costs for your individual order based on the total weight and your destination country. Simply add all desired articles to your virtual shopping card and proceed to the check-out page to calculate the shipping costs.
For international orders, our shipping partner is DHL. Shipments cannot be delivered to PO boxes.

Regarding customs clearance & duties

Depending on the laws and regulations of the destination country, import of certain goods may be restricted or prohibited. Any additional fees incurred during the customs clearance process will be the responsibility of the customer.

Regarding returned articles

We will charge a shipping fee for any items that are sent back by the shipping company as a result of illegitimate reasons (e.g. failure to receive the items, exhausting the storage deadline of the shipping company etc.).

Payment Methods

Regarding payment via credit card

We accept Visa, MasterCard, JCB, American Express and Diners.
After entering your credit card information, the data is sent directly to your respective credit card vendor for confirmation; your information is never shared with any third party. Furthermore, we employ VeriSign (secure server ID), a world standard technology, to encrypt all sensitive network traffic in order to protect your data.
shashasha’s currency of business is the Japanese Yen. If the customer’s credit card is registered in a country with a different currency, the final order amount charged depends on the exchange rate employed by the credit card company. The purchase limit for individual orders is 2,000,000 JPY.

Regarding payment via PayPal

Through your PayPal account, it is possible to use your debit card, credit card or bank account in order to pay for your order. Even without a registered PayPal account, you will to pay via credit card through PayPal’s secure services. The credit card companies accepted by PayPal are as follows:

  • American Express

Regarding payment via Amazon Pay

You can pay with ease using the payment information stored in your Amacon.co.jp account.

Regarding COD (Cash on Delivery)

Orders shipped within Japan may be paid directly to the Yamato staff member delivering your order. Depending on the order total, an additional fee for payment via Cash on Delivery is applied. Cash on Delivery is not available for orders exceeding 300,000 JPY. The additional costs are as follows:

In case goods ordered with the Cash on Delivery payment option are returned for illegitimate reasons (such as declining the delivery of the order, exhausting the storage period of the shipping company etc.), we will charge the customer for any additional shipping costs, the original Cash on Delivery fee as well as any fees incurred by refusing the CoD payment.


If a customer’s shashasha account shows a history of orders with failed Cash on Delivery payments, regardless of the reason, we may refuse accepting any new orders.

Yamato stores items for seven days after their arrival at the respective delivery location. We request that you initiate a re-delivery request promptly after receiving any missed-delivery notices.

Regarding returns & exchanges

In general, due to the nature of the products shashasha deals in, we do not accept cancellations, returns or exchanges issued by the customer after an order has been received.
In the unlikely event that you have been sent a product which differs from your order, please contact us to resolve the issue.

Once your order arrives, please confirm the contents of your delivery and the condition of the items carefully and promptly. We accept exchanges only if the customer contacts us within seven days of receipt of the order and at least one of the conditions listed below apply:

  • one or more items differing from the original order
  • defects caused during production/publication of the book (such as pagination/binding errors, physical damage etc.)
  • damage occurred during transportation

However, in the situations outlined below, we reserve the right to refuse returns & exchanges:

  • damage caused by the customer
  • items returned in incomplete state and/or without corresponding accessories
  • when items have been modified

Regarding commercial receipts

Please add the relevant information (receipt address etc.) into the comments box during the check-out process.

Regarding gift wrapping

Please select the gift-wrapping option during the check-out process for items to be gift-wrapped.
Gift wrapping fee: 250 JPY

Regarding the copyright of our content

Unauthorized copying and replication of the contents of this site, text and images are strictly prohibited.

Ordering process

For orders paid using a credit card:

  2. After confirming the contents of your shopping basket, please click “Proceed to Checkout”
  3. Enter a shipping address & confirm shipping costs
  4. Several additional options are available during this stage (gift-wrapping, order receipt etc.)
  5. Following the selection of the respective payment option, please enter your credit card details.
  6. Confirm the details of your order once more before pressing the “Order” button
  7. Your order is received and will be processed

For orders paid using PayPal or Amazon Pay

  1. Add desired items to the shopping basket
  2. After confirming the contents of your shopping basket, please click “Proceed to Checkout”
  3. Enter a shipping address & confirm shipping costs
  4. Several additional options are available during this stage (gift-wrapping, order receipt etc.)
  5. Select the respective payment method
  6. Confirm the details of your order once more before clicking the “Order” button
  7. You are automatically taken to PayPal/Amazon Pay
  8. Following successful payment via PayPal/Amazon Pay, your order is received and will be processed
