Mariko Takeuchi was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1972, and is currently based in Kyoto. After receiving an M.A. in Arts from Waseda University, she was a visiting researcher at the National Museum of Modern
Art, Tokyo. She is currently associate professor of Kyoto University of Art and Design. She has contributed to many photography books, newspapers and magazines as a photography critic, and
curated many photography exhibitions. Published works include her Japanese translation of Jonathan
Torgovnik's Intended Consequences: Rwandan Children Born of Rape (Akaaka Art Publishing, 2010).
