TPD Book Award 2018 Winning project.
In New York, Times Square attracts so many different people from all over the place. This area gives me illusions or feelings that site has everything from everywhere. Border between people either political or personal, across race, gender, distance, time we all passed through, things, sounds, smell, emotions and all kind of activities merging all together making one big stream on the street. Everybody has their own concept of values and just doing their own things. All those experiences for people who stood there could be one limited special moment or just a part of negligible mundane life. It makes me wonder, what reflects on Their eyes? what do They have in their mind? where are we going? Where are we coming from?

Hiro Tanaka was born and raised in Japan and has lived in the United States for several years. An interesting coincidence led him to start taking photographs, and getting on the van, traveling with punk bands in United States and Europe – after accidentally winning a free trip to the US through raffles at a shopping mall in Tokyo, since then he has been taking photographs, shooting video footage and collecting English slangs and phrases. He has won Cosmos Arles PDF Award, ShainBook Award in France, YET #11 in Switzerland, and has been selected as a finalist and shortlisted for several awards such as the Kassel Photobook Award, Kassel Dummy Award, Gomma Photography Grant, Daylight Photo Award and more. Tanaka has had exhibitions in several international photo festivals.
