This is a faithful reproduction of the photobook “Daido Hysteric No.4”, published in 1993 by influential Japanese fashion brand Hysteric Glamour.
The “Hysteric” series, first published in 1991, was launched as a platform for photographers to showcase their work without having to adhere to requests from advertising or marketing clients. Unlike the previous three issues which featured a number of different photographers, Daido Moriyama was the only artist in charge of shooting issue 4.
The publication, limited to 300 copies, sold out as Moriyama rose to international fame during the 1990s. The book, featuring more than 300 pages of Moriyama’s photographs, is both an important showcase of Moriyama’s early 90s work and a cornerstone of the crossover art culture that defined Harajuku since the 1990s.
