With “Visitors+”, Union Publishing releases an extensive collection of portrait work by London-based fashion photographer Piczo.
In 2013, Piczo began photographing new models who – like him – were just starting out in minimalistic environments and more intimate settings than commercial fashion photography shoots would permit. The approach turned weaknesses (inexperience, shyness, minimal equipment) into strengths, and the project’s limitations – often shot at in one-on-one settings in the model’s own home or their neighborhood – helped bring out the unadorned, natural charm of Piczo’s subjects. Over the past ten years, Piczo has ended up with a substantial archive of ideas, personalities, faces and fashion.
“When I started taking pictures, everything was digital. Nowadays everything is going against the times, and cameras and pictures have become analogue. These things have all contributed to the subtle changes in my work over the past decade. I would like t think that my photography has evolved over this time, but the old photos still look good in their own way.
I feel this book is a collection of those changes. I hope you enjoy seeing the shifts that have happened over this period, for better or for worse.“
