“Liu Ngan Ling,” the name of Chan Wai Kwong’s 2018 photobook, is also the name of its protagonist-cum-motif, a Taiwanese artist with whom Chan Wai Kwong seems infatuated.
Chan Wai Kwong’s photography is—in the strongest sense of the word—naked photography. Nothing is hidden, nothing is staged in his unrelenting photographic cataloguing of his obsession with Liu Ngan Ling. There are few photobooks which allow their readers to feel this kind of direct access.
