Suicidal Love
“Actually, I have always wanted to make a photobook about flowers.”
― Chan Wai-Kwong
Of course, Chan Wai-Kwong would not make any ordinary photobook about flowers. In “Suicidal Love,” Chan Wai-Kwong uses his camera and artificial light to sculpt flowers into momentary embodiments of sex, eroticism, lust, and perishing. In each photo, various flowers appear from within darkness to signal their desire to procreate, to live, to be beautiful, against the ticking clock of death.
“I remember this line uttered by a photographer, ‘When a lover leaves you, you can only shoot the sky and flowers.’ So, am I done?”
― Chan Wai-Kwong
