Sham Shui Po
Sham Shui Po is a small neighborhood in Hong Kong’s Kowloon district whose (mostly lower-class) residents include migrants from rural China, working class families and retired seniors. With the cost of living being cheap, the area has also found popularity with artists and bohemians.
With his photobook “Sham Shui Po”, Chan Wai-Kwong captures the world, the chaos, the energy, the palpable potential of the area in black-and-white and color photographs. The sheer density conveyed in his photographs as well as the variety of his subjects make it impossible to predict what the next page may show.
