Flower is not flower
With “Flower is not Flower,” Chan Wai-Kwong presents a strong showing of his talents as a photographer. At once personal and detached, Chan Wai-Kwong blasts through a diverse fog of emotions in private snapshots, photographs from the streets of Hong Kong, provocative nudes and playful experiments. According to the artist himself, the title is inspired by a song by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto that still reminds him of his previous girlfriend Yaya.
“All photos were taken in Hong Kong. A rose is not a rose. Hong Kong is not Hong Kong. Red is not red. Yaya is not Yaya. Black is not black. Chan Wai-Kwong is not Chan Wai-kwong.”
