Trouble
Published in 2024, Chan Wai Kwong’s photobook “Trouble” features black-and-white (and some color) photographs taken between 2021 and 2023. The subjects range from snapshots taken on the streets of Hong Kong to portraits, architecture, diary-like shots, funny scenes and erotic moments. “Trouble” once again cements Chan Wai Kwong’s place as one of the most interesting contemporary snapshot photographers, as almost every single shot achieves something noteworthy – be that a mood, a moment, or a joke.
“The title of the book is inspired by an Elvis Presley song that was very important in the production of the book. It gave me a lot of energy.
Most of these photographs were taken between 2021 and 2023. In 2021, a girl from Taiwan told me that Hong Kong has a lot of skyscrapers. She thought it was amazing to see another skyscraper through a building’s windows. I think it’s amazing, too. So, I made this book with her words on my mind. I love her.”
